Doyon Management Services was awarded the SAME Seattle District Project of Excellence Silver Award for this project that took the Government’s 35% design concept to 100% for construction design-build documents. This $8.4M project was located in Hangars 1 and 3 which are on the airfield taxiway that borders Chiniak Bay. The work consisted of four elements in two hangars, focusing on renovation of existing shop spaces, HVAC upgrades as the main component, and lighting upgrades in most of the spaces. There are LED high bay lighting and destratification fan upgrades as well, in the C-130 Hangar I. The overall HVAC system in the contract areas received a new piping system, replacing the aging and corroded glycol piping system. Several of the spaces are workshops and received new dropped ceilings and furniture. New spaces included a 12 x 24 Metal Shop Chiefs office, and a new wire cage assembly under the mezzanine in Hangar III. Fire suppression sprinkler placement was updated to match the renovated spaces, as well as controls.
